19.10.13 : Salsas Restaurant at Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang

In the month of October 2013, Gurney Paragon Mall is officially open with loadsSs of shopsSs and restaurantsSs. Obviously a good news for Penangite especially shoppers as this have helped to add up an additional mall to 'japan-jalan' and 'makan-makan' in the island. Gurney Paragon is actually a mixed development project comprising 700,000 sq. ft. shopping mall, an office tower and two high end residential towers. Salsas Restaurant - Cooking With All Senses! appeared to be our first restaurant to dine in here located at level 2.

Salsas Restaurant is not something new in Penang Island to most people as this restaurant have already been here in the island for quite some times where the first shop is located at Hotel Continental's Ground Floor mainly offering various types of Western Food.

We had 2 sets of the set lunch that day where each set consist of a soup of the day, a cup of drink, a main course and a dessert. The soup of the day was the creamy pumpkin soup and we find it quite flavourful.

The main course that I ordered is the BBQ Chicken Thigh. Since is the thigh of the chicken, the meat was really tender and soft, together served with the BBQ flavoured sauce was a perfect combination.

On the other hand, Hoay ordered herself the Grilled Fish Fillet (she is a big fan for fish if you noticed most times she will order the set with fishes), although from the photo below, it looks more like a Fried Fish Fillet.

Once we finished with our main course, not long after that, we were served with the dessert. Initially, we thought the dessert would be simply be some kind of 'kuih-muih', but surprisingly, the dessert were much better. A scoop of ice-cream (choices of mint, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry) and a slice of cake.

The place and service was pretty okay in general and each lunch set cost RM 16.50, awaiting to be slaughtered charged with 6% government tax as well as 10% service charge.

09.08.13 : Maa Roy Thai Seafood Restaurant at Krystal Point, Penang

It have been mere 4 to 6 monthsSs we haven't been to any Thai Restaurant to dine. Not because we are not into Thai food but just, somehow Thai food never happen to be in mind. Finally, we decided to reset the counter and go for one nearby. And, there we go for lunch, Maa Roy Thai Seafood Restaurant located at Krystal Point, Penang.

The shop is actually not very big and spacious, maximum can roughly accommodate up to 10 medium size tables. So if you are coming with quite a number of friends or family members, is best to make a booking ahead to avoid disappointment.

We ordered 3 dishes all together. Most of the dishes are available in 3 sizes that you can choose from, small, medium or big. RM 15 for a small set of Deep Fried Squid with Garlic. As you can see, the portion is really small indeed. If you are a big eater, do not order the small size set but go for the big one instead.

Pandan Chicken at RM 3.50 per piece. We personally think that the taste for the pandan chicken is just 'so so..', not as good as what we thought, could be due to the pandan sauce that was used to marinate the chicken.

Thai Restaurant are usually famous for its' Tom Yum Soup, and Maa Roy Thai did not prove it wrong, simply good. RM 15 for a small bowl of Tom Yum Seafood that consist of prawns, mushrooms, squids, slices of fish meats, tomatoes and the hot burning Tom Yum soup, best to have on a rainy day. We were neutrally satisfied with the overall food and service. This time round, no government tax but 5% service charge is applicable.

03.08.13 : The Cruises Steak House at Bishop Street, Penang

I could still remember that I used to passed by this shop located at Bishop Street years back. The first impression back then was "Waaa.. this shop looks good and unique..", but haven't got a chance to dine in. Currently, there are 2 branches here in Penang, one at Bishop Street, Logan Heritage and another one at Ideal, The One. Lucky enough, finally I have the chance to dine in at one of its' branch at Bishop Street, Logan Heritage.

The impression back then wasn't wrong, such a nice shop, I really like the way how they decorate their shop's interior with statues, costumes, figures and stuffs, fascinating! Also, the shop has a lot of items in brown colour, giving it a more vintage wooden feel.

There's a small mini stage here for the band, performing musics/songs every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night. If you love the feel of dining with live bands playing on stage, you may give it a try.

Besides the cozy ambiance, on the other hand for food, we had Fish n Chips (RM 14.90) and D'Cruise Combo Set (RM 28.90) that consist of grilled chicken chop as well as black pepper lamb chop. The price are subject to 10% service charge. The taste for both sets overall are satisfying.

We enjoyed our lunch very much, truly amazed with the shop's interior and environment. Looking forward to dine during the night to check out the live band next time.

21.07.13 : Tang Bo Fu (糖伯府) Bukit Mertajam, Penang

Tang Bo Fu (糖府), might also be known as the imposter of Tong Pak Fu (), is famous for selling desserts at its' best. If you do not pay enough attention, you might mistaken it as the actual Tong Pak Fu (the difference is the red and yellow highlighted mandarin wording).

Currently, Tang Bo Fu branches are all located in Penang, both island and mainland. And here we are at the branch in Bukit Mertajam, Penang. This is the red pepper sweet potato fries (RM 4.80) that we ordered, quite spicy actually and is best you have a cup of water/drink by your side.

For Mango Royale category, we ordered Mango Mini Sago (RM 7.80). Cold when served, not too sweet and tasted just nice, mango lover will definitely love it.

Now, here comes my all time favourite Black Rice Soup Mini Rice Ball (RM 5.80), still hot when served and came together with a small little tiny cup containing coconut milk. It came separately just in case if you prefer to have it without the coconut milk taste.

If you're interested to take a look at the full menu with prices, click here. Not to forget, the price are subject to 10% service charge. As usual, places nowadays are always bundled with extra charges and taxes.

Big fan for tong-sui and nearby here at this hour of time, do drop by to sweeten up a little.

20.07.13 : Winter Warmers in Precinct 10, Penang

Winter Warmers - Coffee & Tea House. If you already know, Winter Warmers are famous for its' English teas that includes original black teas, milk teas, herbal teas, fruit teas, ice blended and iced fruit teas. Besides, they also serve Italian Coffee and flavoured coffee such as Rose Coffee, Green Tea Coffee, Chocolate Mint Coffee and Lavender Coffee. Currently, they have a few branches here in Penang and one in The Curve Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya. This appeared to be my very first time here in one of its' branch in Precinct 10, Penang.

The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable. If you actually noticed, there're flowers everywhere in the shop. The tea leaves are imported from Germany and same goes to all the tea pots, so better not break one.

We ordered Mixed Ice Fruit Tea (RM 11.90), meaning, you'll get the taste of mixed fruit, that includes apple, orange, pineapple and cherry. The portion is enough for 2 persons.

Deep Fried Garlic Fish (RM 17.90). Besides fish, there are French Fries and Broccolis. The garlic sauce is a little spicy but taste good.

Macaroni Cheese Baked (RM 18.90). As soon as I first tasted it, immediately became my favourite. It may looks simple, but it tasted real good, so much better then I expect.

Definitely a recommended place for those who are looking for a relaxing dining spot to chill with family and friends. Note that, the price are subject to 10% service charge and 6% government tax.
